At least 125 people were reportedly killed and hundreds wounded, many of them children, in two separate bombings in Baghdad early this morning.

The attacks hit crowded shopping areas where children and families were out after breaking their fast for the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Four decades of conflict have made Iraq one of the most dangerous places in the world for children. As violence across Iraq intensifies, children continue to pay the heaviest price.

The killing and maiming of children is a grave violation under international humanitarian law.

UNICEF reiterates its call on all parties to the conflict in Iraq to protect children from all forms of violence.
